Why Are Eye Exams Important For Children?

By undergoing regular eye exams, your optometrist can detect eye diseases and conditions early and help provide strategies to mitigate their effects before your child’s vision is permanently damaged.

What Does a Children’s Eye Exam Look Like?

At Optical Thirty8, our primary focus is to make sure your child feels comfortable and relaxed throughout the exam.

At the beginning of the exam, your optometrist will chat with you and your child to help ensure your child’s health and family health history is all up to date. This time is also the perfect opportunity to bring up any questions or concerns you or your child may have.

Following this conversation, we’ll move on to assessing your child’s visual acuity. Using tried and true techniques like eye charts or phoropters, we can help determine their prescription and find the glasses or contact lenses your child needs!

Once your child has their prescription, it’ll be time to move on to assessing your child’s ocular health. By taking a look at your child’s eye health, your optometrist can detect a variety of eye diseases or conditions that could threaten their vision.
